How can robots complement the way people search? ConCord explores how wearable sensing can give robots insight into human attention and search behavior. By connecting gaze, head, and hand movements with robotic systems, we lay the groundwork for teammates that recognize what people have explored and where assistance may be needed. Our prototype spans simulated and real-world search environments, taking a step toward more adaptive human–robot collaboration.
We explore how hand gestures can enable intuitive mobile robot teleoperation. Our real-time system translates hand movements captured by a head-mounted device into robot motion commands through various gesture schemes that offer different tradeoffs between precision and intuitiveness. User studies show that gesture-based control performs comparably to traditional interfaces, even when participants perceive their performance differently. Extending this work, we infer operator fluency from motion smoothness and hand-joint features to predict task completion time and corrective actions with high accuracy.
Networked camera systems increasingly process video at the edge to reduce communication and energy overheads, but lightweight, edge-friendly models face an undesirable complexity–accuracy tradeoff. SteerCam jointly adapts camera viewing angles and selective sharing of hints between inference pipelines, improving detection as objects move through the monitored space. FusionBridge extends collaborative perception to static RGB cameras and mobile LiDAR-equipped robots, using compact, class-aware hints to overcome challenges such as occlusion and poor lighting.
